Sailing information

The dominant wind in Cyclades Area is north known also as “meltemi”. It gets stronger in July and August, that is why a skippered yacht charter is an ideal choice for your sailboat rental. Although the winds sometimes blow 4-5 days in a row – with a force of 5-6 bft, there are itineraries that are well protected like the area of the Middle Cyclades. This fact makes it our favorite route either you are an insider or a beginner in sailing.

About your skipper

Kostas was born in Athens on 1973. He almost grew up into the sea as he used to spend all of his summer holidays at the island of Evia using his fathers’ fishing boat.
At the age of 12 he started sailing with optimists. He is a professional skipper since 1998 and he has sailed all over the Mediterranean, transferring sailing yachts often from the South & North of France, Slovenia and Croatia. He has a very good knowledge of the Greek islands and he will be thrilled to take you to unique places. He also has an engineer diploma and in 2014 he also obtained his scuba diving license.

Skipper’s task:

Chartering a yacht with a skipper is a great idea if you wish to experience without distractions and worries the fun of your very own yacht charter.

Professional skippers ensure your sailing holiday to be informative, safe and trouble free. Also allows you to enjoy your sailing skills as much as you like. Skippers are responsible for the safety of guests and the yacht and have a very good knowledge of the local sea waters as well as perfect locations and you can be based on their guidance and chosen destinations.

At this point it is very important to have in mind and know which the duties of a skipper onboard. First of all he is responsible for the safety of you and the boat 24 hours a day, for as many days as the charter lasts. Your captain is the guy who is going to navigate and sail the yacht from one island to the other. He is the one who will manoeuvre at the ports and the one who will take you ashore with the dinghy, if you are at an anchorage. He is also the technician who will fix the problems that might arise, if it is possible and finally your guide for life ashore with his recommendations. The working hours for a skipper are maximum eight, out at sea, but after that he is in charge of the boat’s safety, something that might keep him awake for the whole night, if the circumstances require it. Conclusively he is the hospitable host who will answer all of your questions and even teach you some basics of sailing, if you are interested.

Important Notice referring your Skipper

It’s very important to have in mind that you will need to buy some food for your skipper. When you buy provisions for cooking onboard, keep in mind that one more person is in your company. You are also free to invite your captain ashore for dinner. However, he might decline your invitation simply because he needs rest. For him a season consists ofsuccessive, intense weeks. Tips are not mandatory. They are just a sign of recognition for a good job.
